Southern Comfort  - Oh Yeah!

Got a question about New Orleans
Ask Us

Cindee Quick, the innkeeper, greets us on the big porch.  She's got a smile that warms us immediately and a house that wraps itself around us and says 'ahhh.'

In the corner of the big living room sits a huge Christmas tree with twinkling lights and a collection of decorations that resonate with musings of holidays past.

Cindee helps us with our luggage, which we lug down a long hallway - or 'breezeway', as they are called in the South - to our room, and offers us a glass of wine which we gladly accept.

The three of us settle around the table in the big kitchen at the back of the house and begin to get acquainted.  We tell our driving woes, but Cindee, a true Southerner, is already thinking of ways to help us get around.

She gets out guide books and maps and tells us how to use the St. Charles Streetcar which is just minutes away.  Before long, the whole thing begins to seem insignificant (although it isn't!), and we are laughing at our lack of civic responsibility.

Cindee, on the other hand, is at her peak in responsibility.  A native of New Orleans, she returned home after a 20 year adventure working in the aerospace industry and traveling around the world.   The last four years have been spent restoring the Southern Comfort in the design of it's original French owners.  Hardwood floors, ceiling to floor windows, a big welcoming veranda with an inviting swing and lots of light all contribute to the grandeur of yesteryear, with charm and warmth for a comfortable stay.

Each of the rooms are named.  Our is the Horizon, and outside the window are lush green plants with big leaves that sing lullabies when the breeze blows.

The Bouligny Room - a historical reminder that the Southern Comfort was built as part of the Bouligny Plantation in the 1800s

In the mornings, Cindee provides a splendid fresh baked pastry with lots of chickory coffee and a big bowl filled with bananas, apples and oranges.

Glad to be here, in the mood for Christmas and pumped up with Cindee's contagious enthusiasm for New Orleans, we settle in to our home for a week and get ready to "Laissex les bon temps rouler!" Let the good times roll!

The New Orleans School of Glass Works is having a Christmas Party and we hear the whole event is a Glass Act!

Let's Go!
