Fall Into Breckenridge

After an unusually warm summer, the temperatures have finally begun to drop. The bulk of the summer tourist season is over, making Breckenridge a pleasant place to visit. September 15th and 16th marks the 13th Annual Oktoberfest Celebration in Breckenridge, so grab your stein and get ready to party. Aside from beer, the event features Bavarian Food and music.

Are you in the market for some new gear? Head over to the Riverwalk Center on the weekend of September 15th and 16th, where Team Summit will be holding its annual Ski and Snowboard Swap. Along with great deals on gear, you can listen to Denver DJ Raphael Kroshay as he welcomes winter with some upbeat music. Avalanche Physical Therapy will provide free sport clinics. 15% of all proceeds go to team Summit.

Admission is free on Sunday from 10:00 to 3:00.

Fall Colors Hikes
In case new gear or German beer hold no interest for you, consider taking a fall colors hike. There are three coming up:

Thursday Sept. 20, 10am Sunbeam Hike: Fall Colors and Wildfires

Thursday Sept. 27, 10am Sawmill Hike: Fall Colors and Waterfalls

Thursday Oct. 4, 10am Illinois Creek Hike: Fall Colors of Breckenridge

Cost: for hikes are $8/person, $22/family of four if you pre-register, or  $10/person, $24/family of four on the day of the event. For information, call 970-453-1734.

Backstage Theatre - Escanaba in da Moonlight
As long as you are in Breckenridge for hiking, why not spend an evening at the Backstage Theatre? On September 21st through September 29th, the backstage will present  by Jeff Daniels. According to the Backstage Theatre website, this is a show of  "lowbrow humor and high spirits."  Curtain is at 7:30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $18. For reservations, call
(970) 453-0199.

PSST! Insider Tip: Believe it or not, you can find inexpensive lodging in Breckenridge. The Fireside Inn is located on North French Street, which is one of the most beautiful blocks in Breckenridge. It is both a Bed and Breakfast as well as a hostel.

Owners Andy, Niki, their daughter Robin and their two adorable standard poodles bend over backwards to make your stay a comfortable one. Niki is also a tour guide for the Breckenridge Historic Alliance, so be sure to ask her about walking tours and tours of the Edwin carter and Barney Ford Museums. With rates as low as $27 for dormitory and $110 for a suite that sleeps four, it's worth it to spend the night!

See you on the mountain!
