Beyond
the grill maker, we see a long narrow counter and a few tables butted
against the wall. The smoky, fire-fragrant smell is irresistible.
We’ll have to hang around and try it!

The perpetual line lingers outside, but we get our order in quickly, then wait almost
10 minutes for the hamburger — a small price to pay for so much flavor.

Across the street
we sit on a
bench to enjoy the burgers under two elegant elephants.
Acquired by an architect for the World’s Fair in San
Francisco, they have become the symbol of Sausalito.
Hunger pangs consoled, we decide
its a good time to take a
tour of the Hawaiian Chieftain.
We'd seen the ship earlier on the harbor.
