Big breaths needed to sigh at spectacular
scenes!
The day begins in a chilly, damp, Bay Area mist. We’ve decided
to take our morning walk in Muir Woods (see
the 360º view), but as we arrive, the fog is so thick, we
pause on the road, each waiting for the other to suggest a big
farmer’s breakfast somewhere.
We’re from Denver; we walk every day in a mile
high elevation at 6:00 a.m. Most days are blue skies and
sunshine, but snow, drizzles and wind don’t stop us. But fog?

I’m remembering my
running days in San
Francisco when my
roommate and I used
to get up at 4:30 in
the morning to run
around the Sunset
District so we could
make the 7:00 a.m.
trolley. It is
always foggy in the
Sunset. It’s like
sucking water
through your nose.
The association is
too strong; I break
down and suggest
breakfast.

We back track and decide to try out the
Dipsea, which we noticed
earlier. It sits on a little canal right off the freeway in Mill
Valley. It turns out to be a good choice. |

Pastel murals of chickens
and barnyard things cover the walls.
Locals are having power lattes at tables
covered with blue and white-checkered
tablecloths. A
note on the table has a message going
something like, "We love you but get out
after 90 minutes and make room for the
next group," but it’s friendlier
than that and makes you want to
cooperate.
We do get out within the allotted time,
but the day is still foggy so we decide
to go to
The Town Center
Mall (360º) in Corte
Madera and buy something warm and
fleecy.
This is a gorgeous outdoor mall. Little
tables dot the courtyard surrounded with
unusual stores including a busy produce
market full of beautiful California
vegetables and fruits.
It’s still well before noon after the
shopping spree, but the sun is pushing
rapidly through the fog. We jump in the
car and head through Mill Valley to the
majestic Mount Tamalpais.
Back on the road...
