Well, here's the solution.
Open a cute little breakfast cafe on the corner of some busy, but not
too chic street, become a buyer for Flea Markets and Garage Sales
Everywhere, arrange the stuff so it looks fascinating and artsy and add
a few of your own artistic touches!
Oila! Your heart's
desire!
That's pretty much the story of
Stu and Christine Magnes. She's a native San
Franciscan, he's a New Yorker, but (according to him) she
picked me up
in Marin while he waited tables. Now, 4 kids later - one 18
year old left at home - they're living in Whimsy Land.

An RN first, Christine's secret
talents 'showed up' at Bogie's.
She collects the stuff and if it
looks too tacky, she fixes it up doing whatever is necessary to make it
fit into the scene.

|
For example, the warehouse lights hanging all
over the place took on a whole new look after she added fringe. She
painted butts on the counter right above the stools and wrote up a totally
ludicrous and entertaining tale of how Bogie's got started. |
On the other hand, a team is a team
and Stu, a former salesman, with a degree in Hotel Management,
brings the excitement and charisma every business dealing with the
public needs to succeed.
And just to make sure he doesn't get bored, he's a
practicing massage therapist. His card, designed with his baby
picture on a body with wings, reads "Have Table Will Travel".
If you're lucky, Kathleen will wait
on you. She's been there since the start, doing the books and now
waiting on tables too. They couldn't have paid for better
publicity. Kathleen will keep you entertained with stories about Stu
and Christine and will point out specialty items, such as the famous
Warbucks purchase, one of
Stu's finds. Even Kathleen's husband gets involved. Among
other things, he's the one that refurbished the red car in the slide show
above!
If you think the restaurant
business is stressful and wrought with responsibility, it probably
is. But you'd never get it from this playful group. And better
still... the food is great!
