Dental Implants in Mexico
We use two types of dental implants.  The first is the traditional type used most often for molars and front incisors.  These teeth take the most abuse and are subject to the most pressures when eating.  This implant requires an initial visit in which the metal base in implanted in the bone, then a second visit approximately six months later at which time the permanent porcelain tooth is fitted into the base replacing the temporary.

New One-Day Implants:  The second type of implant is the One Day system used for laterals only.  These teeth have less stress on the bite than the molars or incisors.

Implants are not for everyone, as some folks have bone issues that will prevent implant surgery.  Your dentist at home or our dentists can advise you as to the status of your teeth and gums.

Please describe the type of dental work you need in as much detail as possible.

Implants - artificial roots
Loose teeth can be replaced by titanium implants.  This can be done under local anesthetics or if you wish for sleep sedation.

The amount of jawbone still present, determines the eventual success rate of the implant take.  Bone grafts may be required to solidify the jaw substance before starting the implant procedure.

Prices for implants are $2,200 including the final porcelain over metal crown and the temporary.

Teeth Whitening
Our cost for whitenings is $150  USD.  Only 60 minutes is normally needed for most normal teeth.  We use the Zoom process - a unique, light-reflective, passively adhesive laser light cured resin.  This is an in-office dentist applied process using a special laser light for sealing.

Our price includes a normal Ultra sonic drill-less teeth cleaning, or if you prefer a traditional cleaning with instruments, up to two x-rays if necessary and consultation.  If you haven't seen a dentist in years and your teeth are severely stained etc. a Deep Cleaning may be required and the cost would be an additional $100 USD and the treatment would take another 45 minutes to an hour.

You will see immediate results and will be happy with your new bright smile.

Crowns, Veneers and Bonding - What the difference?
The price for porcelain over metal crowns or veneers is $450  USD per unit including all tooth preparation, x-rays, any bridge fabrication and the temporaries.

Root canals are also $475 regardless of the tooth or number of roots.

If you are calculating the price of a bridge, include the teeth that will be anchoring the bridge as well in your count. (Add one on each side of the missing teeth).   Remember, the bridge structure is included in the cost of the crown work. Fiberglass posts for core buildups (if necessary) run $150. Tooth color matching fillings run $89. per tooth, regardless of which tooth or number of surfaces.

Dentures (Partials below)
Dentures can be either acrylic or resin.  Acrylic dentures cost $1,700 USD for a compete set (upper & lower), and resin dentures cost $2,000.  The resin dentures look more natural and are stronger than the acrylic.  Dentures will last ten years or more depending on use.

A complete set can be made and fitted in eight working days.  Three one hour visits to the clinic will be required.

The patients bone needs to be of proper shape and health for a good fit and retention.  Your dentist will examine you and to see if dentures are good for you.  If not, the dentist may  suggest an alternative such as rebuilding the bone, gum or put in implants to hold the plates.

Partials
Partials can be uni-lateral or bi-lateral, they can be made traditionally with metal base with acrylic teeth with metal wires.  They newest procedure is the Val Plast or Teflon which has the quality of being elastic and adjustable without the involvement of any metal parts.  These are more aesthetically pleasing and of benefit to patients who resist having metal in their mouths.  The costs are:

Traditional:    (Depending on # of units) $750 USD - $1,500.  (for a bi-lateral)

Val Plast or Teflon:  (Depending on # of units) $950 - $1,700  (bi-lateral)

Extractions
Normal extractions
(including many wisdom teeth) can be done by one of our general dentists.  The cost for a normal extraction is $150 USD. per unit.

Surgical extractions:  Impacted wisdom teeth or other difficult situations requiring the services of our Board Certified Oral Surgeon cost $250. per unit.

Most extractions are done under local anesthetic (novacaine injection).  However, dental sensitive patients may elect Sleep Dentistry involving taking a pill an hour prior to the extraction or IV anesthetic administered by a Doctor of Anesthesiology.  Please advise us if you wish to discuss these options further in more detail.

Jaw Bone Recovery - bone graft
In case there is insufficient bone left in the jaw, a bone graft will be required.  These grafts are placed inside the cavities of the lost teeth.  This is called jawbone recovery or bone graft.

Jawbone recovery will create the proper foundation in the bone to receive the implants.

Sinus Lift
It is also possible to fill up the sinus-cavities in the upper jaw.  This is called a sinus lift.  The sinus lift adds volume through solidification of the natural air cavities in the upper jaw.

Four to six months after the sinus lift; your jawbone will be strong enough to receive the metal implants.

On picture 1: you can see that there is not enough bone in the upper jaw (1) for a solid fixation of the implant (2) in the sinus cavity.
On picture 2: artificial bone is being placed in the lower part of the air sinus with the aid of a special drill.  The bone thickening that ensues in the following months, assures a proper fixation of the required implants.

Sleep Dentistry
Many Dental Tourists travel from all over the USA, Canada & Europe to receive treatment at Angels Touch Dental Clinic in Los Cabos.  They do so because we are one of only a few dental practices in Mexico that offers the full array of anesthesia.  Below are the four types of sedation generally used:

  • Nitrous oxide

  • Intravenous (IV) sedation

  • Oral sedative

  • General anesthesia

Oral Anesthesia and IV Sedation are administered at our clinc.  Our doctors routinely perform extensive dental treatments and surgeries under general anesthesia in partnership with private American hospitals such as Ameri-Med in Los Cabos.

Sleep dentistry, also called "sedation dentistry," is a term that refers to the use of anesthesia during dental procedures such as tooth implants, root canals, and tooth extraction. Dental sedation is often used during procedures that require an extensive amount of time, as well as for patients who exhibit dental phobia or have difficulty controlling their movements.  This may include children, people with Parkinsons or Palsy. While the term "sleep dentistry" implies that patients are unconscious, this is usually not the case. Some forms of dental sedation alleviate anxiety or put patients in a dreamlike state, so that little is felt or remembered from the procedure.

For Dental Tourists or people whose workplace demands preclude multiple visits to a clinic, the use of sedation allows them to have dental work that would normally require 5-10 office visits done in one or two longer sessions.  Not only that, most patients have little or no memory of their procedures being done.

Dental Anxiety and Dental Phobia
It is estimated that approximately 30 to 40 million Americans avoid seeing the dentist because of dental anxiety or dental phobia. People with dental anxiety have fears that are often greatly exaggerated. Dental phobia is a more serious condition. People with this condition are terrified and panic-stricken when it comes time to see the dentist.

Sedation Dentistry Candidates

You may be a candidate for sedation dentistry if you exhibit any of the following characteristics:

  • Dental phobia

  • Dental anxiety

  • Difficulty controlling movement due to conditions like cerebral palsy or Parkinson's disease

  • Vacation or work  time constraints that prohibit multiple clinic visits

Important Considerations for Sedation Patients
Patients who are on other medications should notify the dentist in advance before      their Sleep Dentistry appointment.

Avoid eating or drinking for at least four hours prior to sedation.

Previous allergic reactions to other drugs should also be reported to the dentist.

It is mandatory that you do not operate a vehicle for 24 hours after sedation.

You must bring a friend to assist you in returning home after your treatment under sedation.  If you are traveling alone, please advise us so we can provide this assistance.

In Mexico (as in many countries), nitros oxide and full anesthesia can only be administered in a hospital by an anesthesiologist.  Medical and dental clinics cannot use these sedatives.  The Mexican health authorities allow only certified doctors of anesthesiology to administer these sedations in a full hospital environment that has the back-up facilities and personnel necessary to care for fully sedated patients.

Our Staff and Clinic is experienced and qualified:
Our Board Certified Maxillo-Facial Oral Surgeon Dr. Alponso Peña and Endodontist Dra. Rosa Elena Peña have both worked in Baja Sur hospitals for over twenty years and are highly experienced in treating sedated patients in a hospital environment.  They routinely administer oral sedatives for normal Sleep Dentistry patients in the clinic.

Angels Touch Dental Clinic has partner specialists available for emergencies including Doctors of Cardiology, Gastro-Intestinal, Anesthesiologist, General MD's and a fully equipped state-of-the-art American hospital close-by for major treatments.

Prices as of May 2006 for Sleep Dentistry are as follows:

Intravenous (IV) sedation  Administered and monitored by an anesthesiologist in clinic:  $350 USD
