I try to squelch the cringe as we turn on 20 de Noviembre Street, a shabby looking section two blocks from the main street, and see the name of our accommodations for the night glaring at us on a big gaudy yellow sign on the side of a building.  We wonder for a moment, what have we gotten ourselves into?

We have reservations at the Cabo Inn and have been told it's within walking distance to everything we'll want to do.  We park the car against a wire fence and walk across the road to the entrance.

Any anxieties we may have had, instantly dissolve as we push open the wrought iron gate and enter another world.   he smell of cigar greets us.  Two men are sitting languidly at a large table looking up at a TV that is partially draped with dried palm leaves.

The huge room has big Mexican tiles on the floor, and plants and vines are creeping up the walls and dripping down from the stick ceiling.  The cigar smoke floats lazily upward and strangely seems to dissolve in a spreading cloud around the room.

We introduce ourselves and one of the men rises to welcome us.  He shakes our hand and tell us his name is Gary McPhee.  He owns the place with his wife, Pam.  The other man is 'The Cigar Man' and if we need a case, he's our man.

Gary takes us up two flights of stairs that are tucked between cactus and colorful bushes.  As we pass the second floor we notice all the doors are colorfully painted iron.  Little tables and chairs are placed at each door as though set up for a game of checkers.

Carved door entrance to Juan's Love Palace at the Cabo Inn, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Our room is Juan's ama el Palacio  - Juan 's Love Palace.  It is in the farthest upper corner of the inn.

Even before we enter the room, we are sucked into the ambiance by the heavy and colorful carving on the door.

Half of the Love Palace is a Palapo with the Palm fans making a graceful ceiling and see-through walls made from layered sticks.  Where the Palapo ends, a patio begins. A big Mexican Almond tree leans over the stick wall and periodically drops little pods with a plopping noise on the Mexican tiled floor.  Succulents  with coral, pink and fushia are sitting next to a pile of layered rocks and a horno (Mexican firepot).

A brilliant wool blanket of turquoise, black and orange-red is thrown over the bed, and next to that is a carefully carved, dresser and chest.  Suerte, one of two resident cats, makes us welcome by crawling immediately on the bed for a snooze.

Outside our room is a sitting room, a small pool to cool off in while sunbathing and a workout room.   Why don't we just stay here in this little Paradise forever?

The ear plugs Pam gave us as we checked in were a hint of the night ahead!  Cabo San Lucas is a party town - a loud party town.  The bars stay open 'til 3, 4 or even 5 in the morning and the music just begins to cook around 10 or 11.

Our Love Palace is high enough to hear it all!  But the ear plugs - when stuffed deep enough into our ears - work great and the next thing we hear is the rooster crowing!'

Yes, I think our Cabo San Lucas accommodations suit us.  We will definitely stay here for a couple of days.

Next! Cabo - after the party, what else is there to do?
