Art de Mexico!
The Secret of Todos Santos

The name Todos Santos means All Saints.  If that doesn't make you sit up and take notice!

Although this rather plain-looking little village is situated on the Pacific Ocean it is not seaside.  In fact, it takes a good hike to get to the ocean.

We begin our walk on the west end at the Charles Stewart Art Gallery and slowly begin to absorb the  charms that attract so many to this remote and secluded town.

The seduction lies not only in it's location, but in some claim to mystical energy and the people it attracts.  Todos Santos has long been famous as home to witches and healers (brujos and curanderos).

A sign posted in the local cafe announces a poetry reading next to an invitation to writers to join a writing community for feedback, critiques and support in getting published.

More signs and ads in the local newsletter hint at the local characters.  A book group is gathering to study History of the Siege of Lisbon by Nobel prize winner Jose Saramoga.

The Todos Santos Tomatoes are meeting to support women in business, an instructor is offering Tai Chi Chuan, and another is leading Sai Baba Meditation, Yoga and Buddhist Meditations.

Charles Stewart Gallery

There are more art galleries than bars.  The first to open is the Galeria de Todos Santos where some of the most prominent painters in the Baja are on exhibit.

Among the many galleries, Jill Logan in her galeria logan paints brilliant landscapes and sensual women in oil and acrylic.

Charles Stewart Gallery and Studio is known as the "founding father" of the art community.  His work ranges from poetic lyricism to geometric abstraction.  His ad says "Painting is life; it is for the artist to make the paint and canvas live."

We make the rounds, picking up things here and there, examining the fine quality and marveling at the creative abundance of the community.
